Protecting the Valley’s Interests

Joel Campos was born and raised in Modesto. He is proud to say that he was raised in a multi-generational household, with his grandparents helping to raise him during much of his youth. Joel grew up in West Modesto and attended Martone Elementary School before moving to North Modesto. Joel played soccer on various teams for the Modesto Youth Soccer Association (MYSA). After moving, Joel attended Roosevelt Junior High School and Prescott Senior Elementary. Then he attended Thomas Downey High School where he ran track and cross country.
After graduating high school, Joel attended Modesto Junior College, CSU Stanislaus, and finally graduated with a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from San Jose State. While attending college, Joel continued to serve his community in all his work. He attended city council meetings, advocated for transit facilities, and even participated in the process that drew Modesto's first city council district map.
Upon graduating CSU Stanislaus in 2012, Joel joined the California Army National Guard. Even through his work in the national guard, Joel has always had Modesto in mind. He is always finding a way to improve the quality of life in his community.
While serving in the National Guard, Joel met the love of his life and future wife Jazmine. Joel and Jazmine have 2 daughters, aged five and one.
In 2017, after graduating San Jose State, Joel was mobilized for a year-long deployment as a Chinook door gunner in Kuwait and Iraq. Joel now serves as an associate regional planner at the San Joaquin Council of Governments, but believes he is called to do more for Stanislaus County. Joel is running for State Assembly to represent the place that he calls home!
